MATTERHORN READY FOR WAR
Prominent selector turned deejay, Tony Matterhorncontinues to receive praise for his dominant effort at STING 2011 against comedic duo, Twin of Twins. However, the entertainer maintains that his victory on Boxing Day was no fluke.
Matterhorn and the Twins attempted to settle their long-standing feud via a lyrical clash at the 28th edition of STINGin the early hours of Tuesday morning at Jamworld in Portmore, St. Catherine. After a sluggish start by both participants, Matterhorn stamped his authority on their lyrical battle with an array of freestyles as well as a snippet of his upcoming Dancehall Duppy 4 single.
Following the clash, Twin of Twins member, Patrick Gaynoraka Curly Lox intimated that he fell ill due to a nasal congestion received as a result of excess touring during the holiday season. Gaynor explained that after having a drink ofMagnum following the consumption of medication, he felt funny, thus, leading to a sub-standard performance by the comedic duo. As a result, the Twins denied that a clash took place; issuing a rematch invitation to Matterhorn to settle their differences once and for all.
During an interview on CVMTV’s OnStage which aired on Saturday, Matterhorn was unfazed by the Twins’ remarks; insisting his victory wasn’t diminished due to Gaynor’s sickness.
“I am ‘Mentally Ill.’ So whether yuh sick, whether yuh sober, whether yuh drunk, when is a knockout, is a knockout,”he said.
“Even if they weren’t physically ill, their lyrics would have made them physically ill.”
Furthermore, Matterhorn claimed that fans and friends alike underestimated his chances during his clash with the Twins. However, the Goodas Fi Dem singer stated that he remained un-intimidated by the STING crowd; relying on his near 20 year experience as a selector to guide him through the jitters.
“In that arena, that’s like my backyard. It’s a walk in the park for me. I’m used to performing in front of mass crowds,” he said.
“A lot of artistes don’t know how to master the butterflies on stage. Around the microphone, I’m like a tyrant.”
According to Matterhorn, he played out the eventualities of the clash in his mind; stumbling on purpose to unveil the duo’s weaknesses.
“We know they lyrical, mi know mi lyrical. Dem stumble, me stumble by my stumbling was a pre-meditated stumble..mi trick unnu,” he said.
As for a potential rematch with Twin of Twins, Matterhorn implied that he’s open to the possibility.
“I care not if dem wan a re or a match. I doh business. Mi tek dis ting as a fun ting.”
Additionally, Matterhorn hinted at possibly clashing more established artistes going forward as he aims to elevate his status within the Dancehall ranks.
“These people think that artist was on their birth paper. I beg to differ. I don’t mind taking on any of the entities in the Dancehall.”
