In Depth with Young Antiguan Artists ::: DRASTIC & BV
I recently got the chance to sit down with Drastic of the duo Drastic & BV. A few weeks ago the Antiguan native made a very public announcement via facebook. He announced he had accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. I was intrigued to say the least. I had many questions and he was gracious enough to answer them.

1. Tell me about your start in music?
A: I’ve been into music as far back as I can remember. I grew up in the church and was raised by parents who both are awesome singers at the church, but it wasn’t until 2007 I actually took a step to make music a career.
While attending the University of the Virgin Islands, Brandon Varlack and I entered the V.I. Idol competition as the dynamic duo B.V. and Drastic, now known also as Them Island Boyz. We won the competition, got signed by the label LP Records out of Virgin Islands and I never stopped working on
our craft ever since.
2. What was your first song?
A: Our first single was “Lay Your Body Down” produced by Renan Calistro. Google B.V and Drastic “Lay Your Body Down” to download or have a listen.
3. What was your inspiration?
A: Inspiration came mostly from within. I can’t live without my music. I feel I have a purpose on this earth and it is to influence lives positively through good music.
4. Recently you announced that you accepted Christ into your life; what events sparked that change? What changes have you made to your lifestyle as a result?
A: I was a Christian before. For the past four weeks I’ve been very sick. Through it I was able to take a look at my life and I realized I have strayed a bit from my faith in God. Thus, I decided I wanted to fix certain things in my life and I believe such is only possible if God is in control of my life. I have stopped drinking; I mainly sip on water. I’ve become more patient, hence I’ve been able to make better decisions and have proper judgment.
Listen to my music from here on out. I won’t be singing just Gospel and love songs. I see nothing wrong with songs about the truth as long as I’m living right and making good clean positive music that can move people. I’ve been blessed with a talent and well if God blessed me with a talent, I think it only makes sense to give him back some recognition. My music has never really been dirty so it is all good. All that I needed was just some adjustments to my
lifestyle.
6. Are u still planning to participate in Carnival 2011 activities?
A: I’m very uncertain about carnival at this time. What I can say is that I will be releasing something really nice but my music is not restricted to carnival season, seeing as I’m not a SOCA artist. I just happened to do a soca song being that I’m an island boy after all. I have to defend the culture. Regarding the competition, I will have to consult with my management on whether or not I should participate. I will release a hit single but for now we are focused on pushing our other songs. We also perform outside of the Caribbean and are making music that will impact the entire world.
7. Any new music up we should know about?
A:
